WINTERS WORLD FEATURING MIDDLESBROUGH GO TOP AGAIN AS RANGERS FANS START TO GET THEIR CLUB BACK
17th March 2015

jeff winter
Watching Jimmy Bullard and Deano do their podcast before it was my turn.

Monday and a busy start to the week - off to London on the train to do a podcast with Jimmy Bullard for the show #magicsponge. What threatened to be a manic day got worse when I learnt that Dean Windass was pre-recording a show before mine. We met at Kings Cross and headed to the studios in Hammersmith. An afternoon of madness, mayhem and gross silliness. Brilliant! Getting paid for having a laugh, can't beat it.

Post record having a pint and news was breaking of situation at Sunderland FC. Unbelievable, let's just leave it at that!!

Good news from Ibrox as another undesirable leaves the building. The fans are getting their club back!

jeff winter
Post podcast pint, Jimmy, Deano and yours truly.

Tuesday had started well with positive news coming out of Ibrox, I'll not start shouting though until everything is finalised. It's not over yet!!
The chance to get Saturday's dismal performance at Hillsborough presented itself very quickly. Relegation bound Millwall were the visitors to the Riverside. Surely a comfortable three points and a boost to the goal difference.

jeff winter
No one likes us!! Hardly the crew that reputations were founded on, but 162 loyal supporters travelled north on Tuesday evening to support The Lions at the Riverside. Respect to them especially when the likes of Wigan from just over the Pennines can only muster about the same number.

jeff winter
It hadn't started brightly as Millwall had taken the game to us and missed a glorious opportunity to take the lead early on, but inside half an hour a Patrick Bamford blaster put Boro into the lead and the relieved players celebrated.

jeff winter
Full time and the scoreboard says it all, added to that Derby have lost at Brighton, we are top of the League, well at least until Saturday.
"86 and we nearly died, Ayresome Park to The Riverside, Europe twice and we won the cup, The mighty Boro and we're going up!!"
Fingers crossed, there will be more twists and turns in the Championship saga yet I'm sure. Perhaps Wigan might even win at Norwich on Wednesday night!! Won't be betting on that one!!!

jeff winter
Wednesday afternoon and the final jumps meeting of the season at Catterick, off to a winning start as It's A Man's World eases to victory in the first race. I'm in a regular habit now of backing the first couple of winners then drying up, still at least I'm playing with the bookies money, also with the winnings from the previous night's Boro v Millwall game.

jeff winter
Friday, not working, so a day out with Oliver and his mam, then off to the cinema to see Fifty Shades of Grey. Rangers EGM goes well, hopefully problems over!! Film was different, think I'm going to get a few contracts raised!!

jeff winter
Saturday afternoon and on the road for a long week, first stop The City Ground where Boro had only won once since Jack was a lad, win today and we would keep our place at the top of the table.

jeff winter
My God, Boro are unchanged!!! Warm up time at the City Ground.

jeff winter
View from the press box at The City Ground, Boro's travelling fans limited to only 2,000, are packed over in the corner.

jeff winter
Ready to go; handshakes then let battle commence.

jeff winter
On the way home from Taunton, I received this photo from Sam and a message to confirm that I'm having Oliver overnight on Saturday. Great end to the week all we need now is a Boro win before I pick him up.

jeff winter
Thursday evening and Taunton Town Football Club to do "an evening with", lovely people and a good night. Friday finally back home, 305 miles to get home in time to watch the Gold Cup. Lost money on the week, but thoroughly enjoyed brilliant racing.

jeff winter
Monday evening and in the pub in Exeter to watch the Man United v Arsenal game; a couple of bets up because I fancied the Gunners. More pleasing was the performance of referee Michael Oliver who had a superb game, spotting the divers (cheats) and dealing with them strongly. Top drawer.

jeff winter
Monday and my home for the next few days, Exeter Magistrates Court. I am acting as an expert witness in a compensation claim after a non-league semi-professional player had his career ended following a challenge in a game. As the judge has not decided yet it is not possible for me to give any further details yet but in view of what happened I will be telling the tale in due course.

jeff winter
Saturday lunchtime and it's Boro v Ipswich Town, victory could see us back at the top of the table albeit perhaps only for another two hours.

jeff winter
What a start, Boro one up inside four minutes then a six minute delay as Dean Gerkin worryingly received lengthy treatment before being taken to hospital. Twenty four hours earlier he was at another hospital for the birth of his child. What a difference a day makes!

jeff winter
A lunchtime kick off and 444 Ipswich Town made the long early morning journey from Suffolk, fair play to them but we all know had the shoe been on the other foot, we'd have sold out our allocation!!

jeff winter
As full time approached, we are top of the League, the empty seats are embarrassing though, we sit close to the partially occupied away end but surely we can do better!!

jeff winter
George Friend ready to take off for his full time match salute to The Red Faction after Boro's convincing 4-1 battering of Ipswich Town.

jeff winter
Following their Sky interviews Man of the Match Patrick Bamford and club captain Jonathan Woodgate leave the pitch at The Riverside on Saturday. Derby here we come.

jeff winter
After the Boro match off to the soft play with Oliver, he's stopping over so a perfect end to a perfect day - well almost, Rangers only drew but the Mackems got battered as well.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Tuesday and an afternoon at Southwell Races watching Lady Ibrox run before the short trip to Derby for another six pointer in Boro's attempt to win promotion. Friday sees a double header with a luncheon at Anfield followed by a Dinner on the evening in Manchester. It would have meant a very early morning start on Saturday to get to Bournemouth for Boro's next game. I am spared that journey though as I have another event in Darlington on Saturday evening. Before that though I'll get back home to watch the Boro match on TV then go to Hartlepool for their home game with Mansfield Town. A busy weekend will be concluded with a trip to Edinburgh to watch Rangers game with Hibs.

Enjoy your week.

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.
