WINTERS WORLD FEATURING MIDDLESBROUGH'S CONTINUED WINNING RUN AND SAME OLD LENNON
9th February 2015

A mundane week with the highlight obviously being a couple of days looking after my Grandson. Visits to the soft play weren't divided unfortunately by a day's racing as Sedgefield fell to the weather on Tuesday.

No midweek games either but there was TV footy to watch. Lennon hasn't lost his charm as he has brought his Celtic "never defeated, always cheated" mentality to Bolton. They were robbed he claimed, despite the fact that they only led thanks to a penalty won by a Samaras style dive.

Apart from his defeat and anguish bringing satisfaction the fact that the two late Liverpool goals got my two match bets up added to my enjoyment.

Friday evening and a return visit to Worsley Golf club this time for a local Cricket Club's sportsman's dinner. It was a good night working alongside my old mate Lester Crabtree. Auction went well so everybody seemed very happy.

Back home Saturday morning and off to the Riverside. Home banker!!! Well it turned out that way, but as always in the Championship never an easy game. Despite an early goal, Charlton equalised but Boro stepped up their game after the break and eased to victory.

Sunday and a trip to Southwell Races to watch Lady Ibrox continue her return to racing. Running in a claimer, so a bit of a gamble here - if someone bids £13,000 we could lose her.

Saturday afternoon at The Riverside and Boro face Charlton looking for three points to maintain their promotion push.

On paper Raith Rovers at home seemed a comfortable route into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals. But the club is in turmoil off the pitch obviously and that has most certainly affected the confidence of the players and coaching staff. A deserted Ibrox with criticism in the air is not helping and the season is dying on its arse.

Promotion via the playoffs is even now looking unlikely on current form. The addition of five new players could have helped but with the statement that if fit they have to play only divides an already fragmented squad. If the AGM, despite every effort by the board to defeat the fans' motions, does fall in its sword then will or can Ashley just withdraw the players back to Newcastle's U 21 squad?

I wasn't going to Ibrox because our horse was running but that wasn't the excuse that thousands of other fans had. The defeat and end of a cup run came as no great surprise and probably saved us from another embarrassing game against one of the SPL's very average but greatly superior sides.

Home and away Boro's Red Faction supply the passion, noise and colour.

I went to Southwell to watch Lady Ibrox continue her comeback after operations. She didn't disappoint, I got on early at 8/1 and 10/1. With withdrawals she ended up at 6/1 and ran very well to finish second to a well backed winner. A good run and encouraging signs for the future.

For the second weekend running only Rangers let me down for a nigh on perfect sporting weekend. Funny feeling that could continue!!

Nowt like an early goal. Sorry about the empty seats in the away end, Charlton brought only 240!

THE WEEK AHEAD

Tuesday and off to the seaside to watch Boro play at Championship whipping boys Blackpool. Caution - they drew at the Riverside. Banana skin??

Friday night working in Huddersfield, Saturday the Hartlepool game at the Vic then Sunday off to The Emirates for the FA cup tie for Boro against Arsenal.

Sunday afternoon at Southwell and Lady Ibrox, resplendent in red, white and blue is ready for her race.

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportmanís evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesnít have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

Have a good week.
