WINTERS WORLD FEATURING MIDDLESBROUGH BEAT THE CHAMPIONS AND AN EMOTIONAL DAY AT RANGERS
27th January 2015

A belated Happy New Year to all my readers and followers. Four weeks in the Canarian sun is over and back to Baltic Blighty.

I hit the ground running and getting to bed at 2.30am on Friday after returning home from the airport I was in the car by lunchtime for the 200 mile drive to Stratford Upon Avon for my first speaking engagement of the year. The venue Stratford Town FC, to work with comedian John Lory, a good night with a lovely set of people. Salt of the earth football fans who work hard to keep their club afloat.

Saturday and back home for Boro v Huddersfield Town, not as warm but a much better way to enjoy football than sitting in the sun following Twitter feeds etc. Sounds good but not as good as the real thing. Boro made hard work of it but won through in the end.

Monday and back to child minding responsibilities. I've really missed the little fellah. Tuesday and another Boro game and once again we eased to three points, winning ugly, but who cares. With other results going our way Boro are up to second. End the season now, please!!

In between looking after Oliver I spent the week catching up with Admin, despite not much help from a very slow computer. I think it's on its last legs. Plenty of bookings coming in, busiest start to the year since the recession got a grip three years ago, a welcome sign.

Saturday afternoon and the stadium advertises the afternoon's fare.

The weekend and very contrasting games to attend. Saturday and the FA Cup tie at the Etihad between Manchester City and Boro then on Sunday up to Ibrox for the Fernando Ricksen tribute game.

As it turned out totally different emotions, both involving tears. Saturday was probably one of the greatest days following Boro in my fifty years as a fan. Forget the excuses, this was the champions of England with a team of superstars and we beat them fair and square.

Not as big an upset as Bradford City at Chelsea but a great performance that not only keeps the cup run going but also suggests that automatic promotion can be achieved, fingers crossed.

January 17th and my first game of the year at the Riverside for Boro v Huddersfield Town.

Sunday and the realisation that football really isn't that important. A fantastic crowd at Ibrox to watch old timers kick out... well not really, everyone was there to pay tribute to a man who will soon be sadly taken from us and leave behind a young daughter.

Tragic, and I am not afraid to admit something that reduces me to tears. Whenever I attend a funeral or see or hear something about death or incurable illnesses I always think how I would feel if that was my immediate family.

I almost suffered personal loss when my daughter was 12-years-old. If she had been taken from me you wouldn't be reading this now and wouldn't have a clue of Jeff Winter was. She survived and from that day on I vowed to live every day as if it was my last, because you just don't know when it will be. My gravestone will read "He lived life to the full".

Tuesday night at a Baltic Riverside as Boro aim for second spot in the Championship against Cardiff City.

THE WEEK AHEAD

The weekend poses a suicidal schedule as long as the weather allows it. Friday evening, I'm going to Wolverhampton Races, then driving on down to London. Saturday lunchtime Brentford v Boro, back home after the game, then Sunday back up to Glasgow to Hampden Park for a nice friendly League Cup semi-final.

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show. I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

Have a good week.

Saturday at the Etihad and the English Champions are set to entertain a Championship outfit. Nice tans though, looks like they've JUST got back from the Middle East!

jeff winter
Oh dear me, 170 million in the starting line up for Man City, 70 million on the bench. Surely we've got no chance!

Made a friend whilst enjoying a month in Lanzarote.

jeff winter
Not a bad turn out from Teesside, 5,500 strong, magnificent support!

jeff winter
Patrick Bamford, 1-0 and its celebration time for the Boro!!

jeff winter
Full time at its party time for the Boro players and fans.

jeff winter
Post match press conference and Aitor Karanka modestly confirms that Boro are fucking brilliant.

jeff winter
Sunday afternoon and a totally different type of emotion at Ibrox.

jeff winter
Over 41,000 in Ibrox to pay tribute to former club captain Fernando Ricksen.

jeff winter
Not a dry eye in the house as Fernando is helped out on to the pitch before his tribute game at Ibrox.

jeff winter
So so sad. A fit former footballer and father is carried round Ibrox on what will probably be his last visit. Puts all the off field and on field problems into perspective.
