WINTERS WORLD FEATURING A WEEK WITHOUT FOOTBALL
2nd December 2014

Monday and a day up at Dalton Park doing a bit of Christmas shopping with Oliver; the little sod is uncontrollable when he gets in the shops, just runs wild, you can't take your eyes of him for a second.

Mind you he picked the lucky key to open the box and won a big Thornton's hamper. Think I'll give it to his mother as a present from Oliver!!

Bookings have been coming in steadily for the early part of next year but bizarrely took one for March 2016!!! Hope I live that long!!

Article continues below...

Tuesday and after a couple of weeks break the first of two days planned racing. Sedgefield first and I witnessed one of those bizarre incidents that make a fool of the sport of Kings. A three mile race is completed then just the Grand National a few years ago declared void because the starter had his flag raised so it was false start. Fucking ridiculous, it didn't effect the outcome of the race, apart from many punters losing out, what about the owners and the connections. Cost me 50 as well cos I had the forecast!!!

Wednesday and another chance to fill the bookies sacks. It couldn't have started any worse, a stable horse wins the first @ 25/1, available @ 28/1 on the track and guess what I didn't have a penny on it!!! Delighted for the owners though - really lovely people.

Thursday and another day with the love of my life, an afternoon visit to the soft play in Thornaby then a trip to drop birthday and Christmas presents off at my Goddaughters. Three weeks till I'm out of here for a month so time to get things done. Its not all rock n' roll you know.

Friday and working locally so a day out with Sam and Oliver, a first stay at what hopefully is going to be his play group/nursery class. Gave Sam an hour for a coffee and sausage bun at the local Greggs then off to the Garden Centre for another coffee while Oliver was in the soft play.

I always find it strange to be leaving home at tea time on a Friday rather than being in a hotel after spending a large chunk of the day on the motorways. Total journey of eleven miles to the Wellington pub in Wolviston, working again with Zac Stephens upstairs to raise funds for a local charity, TASC.

Packed room, small but intimate, nevertheless a great crowd, good banter and a few bob raised for a very worthwhile cause. Still well after midnight by the time I got home.

Closely bunched at Sedgefield on the first circuit on Tuesday afternoon.

Saturday and due to work commitments I had to miss any football and Juninhio's latest return to the Riverside for the Blackburn Rovers game. Instead I was driving down to Mansfield for a post conference dinner where I was providing the entertainment.

I hate Saturdays when I can't go to a game, my acca tracker bleeps tell me of goals and when at the hotel Twitter feeds coupled with Jeff Stelling keep me up it date but it's just the same as being there.

Boro's dramatic end to the game at the Riverside was even worse to understand but it didn't stop me getting it in the neck on social media because of Mark Clattenburg's late clanger. Instead of being joint top on points the late equaliser dropped us to fifth!!!

Saturday night's gig was after a company's conference and was a partner's invited night out with band etc, not your regular Sportsman's Dinner type of event. Time to be flexible so I tweaked it a bit and majored on fund raising for the nominated charity. Winged it and raised a tidy sum keeping everyone happy in the process.

Another very late night though but managed to be up in time to watch The Football League Show rerun and watch Dimi been assaulted in the build up to their late equaliser. Some Boro fans assume that I'm going to try and defend Mark Clattenburg - no way, you can't defend the indefensible!!

Can you believe its almost December... a bright but cold afternoon at Sedgefield Races.

After breakfast visited the local designer outlet village just off the M1 at junction 38. Strangely some of my shirts must gave shrank in the wash with buttons being at popping point!!! Good deals to be had on Black Friday weekend. Then the drive to Stockport for our Speakers And Comedians Associations Christmas bash. Another late one in the offing. On the way kept up to date with Rangers latest comprehensive victory over the third SPL team this season. Perhaps Ally might just really know what he is doing after all!!!

Sunday and onward to Stockport for the Speakers And Comedians Christmas bash that unfortunately meant that I also had to miss Rangers cup tie against Kilmarnock. This weekend is helping wean me off football as soon I'll have a month off it altogether.

The evening's bash was as usual a great night out. A few impromptu stand ups with Alan Kennedy in pissed mode describing his European Cup final goals and Leslie Gibson doing impersonations. It's good to entertain each other rather than a paying audience but not as profitable!!

Monday and back home for another busy week, Rangers at home to Raith Rovers in the Cup, should ensure progression!!

Owners Dave and Anne Sturdy along with jockey and their 25/1 winner Harris at Wetherby on Wednesday afternoon.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Tuesday night off to Leeds to see The Who, Thursday off for the weekend firstly to Bury to speak at an event there, then onward to Berkshire for an event on Friday night, into London on Saturday to The New Den to watch Boro's game against Millwall. Saturday night out with my brilliant (he wrote that!!) website manager and close friend Steve, my daughter Emma and her partner Dan. Sunday sobering up and back home Monday.

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

My charity account for MND is still open and taking donations to try and raise funds for the society that works so hard to help people suffering from the disease and I am still hoping people will contribute. Please help me help them.
