WINTERS WORLD FEATURING MIDDLESBROUGH AT ROTHERHAM. THE AWAY END'S NOT BIG ENOUGH!
2nd November 2014

A relatively quiet week after the trip to Glasgow. Wednesday caught up on business admin and got hotels booked for forthcoming gigs during November.

Follow Follow continues to make depressing reading as fans are angry about the boardroom chaos that is once again threatening the future of Rangers. At least on Thursday I could forget that and concentrate on the little fellah.

We went to another garden centre as he loves the lights and this one had a massive model railway which fascinated him. Then swimming, he's getting more confident now, mind you he was momentarily shocked when I let him go under. His Mam would have killed me. No lasting damage though as he soon pulled a little blonde in the soft play at the gym. Happy days!!

Friday and a crazy Mediterranean summer day not really consistent with Halloween day. Not working so went to physios for massage and acupuncture on my tendonitis in ankle and elbow. The wear and tear ailments are worsening by the day. I'm suffering from that incurable illness called old age.

Being tight and not wanting to be disturbed every five minutes we went out for tea, meeting Craig, Sam and Oliver in Stockton at Borges. It would have been rude not to nosh into one of their award winning parmos. Evening well and truly paid for as I picked up a late local booking to speak at a charity dinner in November. You used to get booked months in advance now a lot of people leave it last minute.

Its becoming a regular occurrence post match as Boro players congratulate the travelling fans.

Hadn't realised that it was Wetherby Races on Friday otherwise I might have gone, also no one had told me that former horse Blue Sea of Ibrox was running either. Finished a very credible third at 50/1. Good luck to the new connections hopefully she will start paying her way for them.

The problem is with horses and the small amounts of prize money available at most tracks the only chance you have of covering costs is to have decent bets when the horse runs. At least that should have happened here as the prize money would have struggled to cover entry fees, jockey's fees and transportation to the track. It certainly is a rich man's game!!

Celebration time, 3-0 netting me two bets and scuppering the Gazette's Anthony Vickers' 2-0 prediction. Get in there!

Saturday and off to Rotherham. Rangers for the second Saturday running were at Dumbarton and eased into the next round of the Scottish FA Cup.

The big news was to be the draw for the League Cup semis and a tie against the scum that failed to finish us off. Eagerly awaited and it's a pity that those who attended the ICT and St Johnstone games can't be guaranteed a ticket.

Let's get ready to rumble, a cup tie atmosphere meets the teams for Rotherham v Boro.

We arrived at the impressive New York Stadium before even the pies had warmed up. Howard Webb had texted me wishing me an unsuccessful day as Rotherham are his team.

What a game. No doubt fired up by the obnoxious Steve Evans the home side, unbeaten in five, set off like a house on fire. Boro soaked it up then virtually killed the game off with two early goals.

We had an old style terrace confrontation as some Boro fans were escorted out of the home stands. Revell injured, Ayala lucky not to be booked after a non malicious but reckless challenge.

Special service at the New York stadium on Saturday.

Cue Evans doing his pathetic crucifix hanging stance for the world to see, copied by his able assistant Paul Rayner. Their mood worsened when Revell's replacement was dismissed for violent conduct having only been on the pitch four minutes.

Boro then played keep ball before a lapse gave Derbyshire a late chance that killed the home side as sub Tomlin weaved through for a third and a convincing victory. Players and supporters celebrated in a near deserted stadium. We came, we saw, we conquered was my text message to Webby.

All in all a nigh on perfect day.

We're Boro, we're barmy we're off our effing heads!!! Tremendous away support that had the whole of Rotherham rocking on Saturday afternoon.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Monday night and I'm guest speaker at the Middlesbrough Official Supporters Club meeting, Tuesday its Boro v Norwich, Wednesday Oliver haircut, Friday I'm speaking in Glossop then back on Saturday for Boro v Bournemouth. Sunday up to Newcastle to see The Specials in concert.

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

I must admit I was yet again surprised at Aitor Keranka's team selection, but once more he got it right. In Aitor we trust!

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

My charity account for MND is still open and taking donations to try and raise funds for the society that works so hard to help people suffering from the disease and I am still hoping people will contribute. Please help me help them.

Have a good week.

Good on you son, two years old and Oliver is already pulling the birds. His soft play conquest is an older woman as well!

jeff winter
The lull before the storm, the New York stadium awaits the arrival of 2,618 noisy Boro fans on Saturday afternoon.

jeff winter
No problems as Steve Evans comes out of his technical area; in fairness he couldn't fit in it. A heart attack waiting to happen.
