WINTERS WORLD FEATURING TWO DAYS AT THE RACES, TWO SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND SATURDAY AT HARTLEPOOL
21st October 2014

Lennon is back in work and having a sly dig at the Premier League chairmen who had the audacity not to fall for his charming wit and repeated desperate media appearances to get a job. So let's see if Bolton enjoy success under his masterful leadership. At least post match press conferences will be lively and touchlines will be enhanced by his behaviour when things don't go his own way.

Monday and Autumn turned into Winter at a very cold Sedgefield Racecourse. A couple of winners and a few close shaves, none more so that a mate who had 500 in doubles and trebles going on an 8/1 shot that finished second. There is always one!!

Former syndicate horse Blue Sea Of Ibrox made her racecourse return under new ownership and without our red, white and blue colours. She needed the race and will now be schooled to go chasing. She will probably win races but financially was never going to viable for us.

Tuesday and after a day with Oliver that included visiting the local library for a parent and toddler session we went swimming then I settled down to watch Ben Gibson play for the Under 21's in Croatia. The hosts disappointed but that was good as we progressed to next summer's finals.

Good punch up and mini riot in a Euro qualifier following on from the Super League Final knockout punch. Come on, admit it, while we all tut, tut, tut there's nothing like a good old fashion tear up. Oh, the good old days!! That being said that was then this is now and the cowardly punch to an opponent who was lying on the ground would probably have seen the aggressor jailed had it happened on the terraces.

In the Albania v Serbia game congratulations to my old mate Martin Atkinson who remained calm and diffused the incident as well as he could.

Sunday and a deserted Musselburgh racecourse but the St John Fisher Row Lodge was packed for us to raise funds for Help For Heroes.

Wednesday and another afternoon's racing, this time at Wetherby. A good afternoon with four winners on the day, didn't quite manage to get them into the same Lucky 15 though, that would have been an exceptional day. I did go from the sublime to the ridiculous though backing an AP McCoy runner that perhaps only he would have got home @ 8/1.

The bizarre was in the penultimate race, only three runners and two dropped out leaving only one runner. Walk over - well that's what actually happened. The only runner had to go out on to the course and walk over the winning line then the jockey had to be weighed in. Bizarre, the horse's connections then picked up all of the prize money for the race. Unfortunately the bookies didn't pay out to those of us that had backed it!!

Presence Felt, the bizarre winner of the penultimate race at Wetherby on Thursday afternoon.

Thursday and whilst the pundits and managers were getting uptight about whether our best Under 21 players should go to the Euros next summer, I had a day with Oliver. Surely we should try and win a competition for a change but the old club v country arguments rise to the surface again.

Better day so a walk to the park then a trip to another garden centre where their display included a giant dinosaur. The Little Fellah wasn't too sure about that though!!

Friday and work, on the doorstep too, The Riverside Stadium Legends Lounge, a corporate event arranged by Tesco to raise funds for Diabetes (UK), the event hosted by BBC radio presenter Paul (Goffy) Gough, local comedian Mick Munroe and yours truly.

A mixed audience, perhaps in the main not used to the normal Sportsman's Dinner type of event. A challenge, still on the plus side some ladies rather easy on the eye and totally different to a room full of boozy blokes. After the speeches I did the auction and we raised a very tidy sum that exceeded the organiser's expectations.

Thursday afternoon and a different garden centre to see Christmas lights etc. After early trepidation Oliver finally plucked up courage to stand in front of the dinosaur. Nearly shit himself when it roared into life though!!

Surprise guest appearance from Amelia Lily who suffers from Diabetes. She sang a song before I went on and was certainly easier on the eye than I was!! Cracking night and despite being on the doorstep it was 2am before I hit the sack.

The very late night and the fact that I had to drive to Musselburgh on Sunday for a lunchtime gig meant that travelling south to Brighton for the Boro game wasn't really feasible despite the manic crazy schedules I am used to. Likewise a trip north to Glasgow to watch Rangers play Raith Rovers and subsequent stop over in Fife wasn't ideal either, so the third choice a game at Hartlepool was the football fix for the day.

Passing the winning post with a full circuit to go at Wetherby, the Champion AP McCoy is sat steady towards the rear on number 2, Goodwood Mirage. A circuit later the genius had kicked the horse home at 8/1. Thank you very much Tony!

I would have loved to be at Ibrox as it was an armed forces day and they are always special. A resounding victory added to the day as Rangers thrashed Raith Rovers. I would also have loved to have made my first visit to Brighton as Boro extended their unbeaten run to seven games and moved up to third.

At the Vic Pools as usual played their pretty football without ever having the cutting edge. With less than ten minutes to go it looked as if my betting was also going down the tube as well. A second Luton goal at least got the late goal bet up and then I got lucky. An added time penalty to Pools and Neil Austin blasted home. That brought up the plus 2.5 goals bet and also the both teams to score in the second half wager. Happy days, then home to watch the Sky Plussed racing and see if my gee gees had obliged as well. One good winner so not a bad day.

Strange colours but our former horse Blue Sea of Ibrox made her seasonal reappearance at Sedgefield on Monday afternoon. Her performance suggested we were correct to sell her!

Sunday and up to Musselburgh to a Lodge right alongside the racecourse, so instead of losing money I was earning some and more importantly helping raise monies for the Help for Heroes charity. Good afternoon working alongside the brilliant John Gaghagan.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Monday and Thursday are the chosen childminding days this week which means that I could go to Wolverhampton with the press guys on Tuesday to see the Boro game. Friday night and another dinner in Preston, Saturday and in the hands of others; if a ticket can be secured I'll be up the west coast to watch Rangers at Dumbarton if not it will be homeward bound for Boro v Watford.

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

525 Luton fans made the long journey north to Hartlepool on Saturday afternoon. Quite surprised they didn't sell out their full allocation because they are very well supported both home and away.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

My charity account for MND is still open and taking donations to try and raise funds for the society that works so hard to help people suffering from the disease and I am still hoping people will contribute. Please help me help them.

Have a good week.

Nice coloured shirts Luton but not appropriate to do the huddle bollocks when wearing orange!
