WINTERS WORLD FEATURING RACING, BABYSITTING, AFTER DINNER SPEAKING AND TWO MIDDLESBROUGH GAMES
6th October 2014

The day after the Hibs debacle but life goes on, firstly Sedgefield Races as the beautiful weather continued. Lucky 15 on first four races, three winners then a second, one of these days I will get all four up, I hope!!

Then off to the Riverside, Boro at home to Blackpool (2 points from 9 games), banana skin or what. But this Boro are different aren't they? Well no, despite a bright start and an early goal a bout of illness for Adam Clayton unbalanced the side and Blackpool got more confident.

Despite an equaliser it still looked a gimme that we would get back on top. It didn't turn out that way though and another two points were lost.

My 'almost but not quite' day continued: as Boro pressed for a late winner I had three bets resting on that happening. A late goal, Boro to win and plus 2.5 goals and Boro to win and both teams to score. Never mind, a profitable day and my favourite sports watched.

After my day came two Oliver days, just as good - well, in fact better. Chasing the squirrels, playing on the swings and kicking the football around, the following day a trip to the baths, where splashing Grandpa seems more enjoyable than learning to swim.

Friday and back to work, fairly local at a small village outside York, would you believe a fund raising event for the village's Britain In Bloom fund!! Not the usual cause but a good evening, working with Boro comedian Mick Munroe and back home by 1.30am; an early night!!

Tuesday afternoon and a very busy Sedgefield in the sunshine and a profitable but almost very, very profitable afternoon.

Saturday and as I had another gig in Cheshire on the evening I was left with a predicament over the afternoon's entertainment. Common sense would have seen me take a leisurely drive to Warrington but I'm not for the easy life. So off to the Riverside for the first 70 minutes of the game, then joining the traffic dodgers to get on the road west.

To be quite honest by half time I was beginning to wish that I hadn't bothered. Within 45 seconds of the start of the second half that all changed, Boro must have got a flea in their ears because they came out and started like a house on fire.

Reach scores and the game takes off. Fulham are no mugs now they've got rid of Magath and as I left the outcome was still in the balance. I had to listen to the rest of the game on the radio.

Fulham came close but we got a second so the unbeaten run goes on. Elsewhere remain unbeaten on the road in the league for TWO years. Sadly Hartlepool got hammered and that was the end for Colin Cooper.

Tuesday night at the Riverside, Boro face struggling Blackpool and surely a good opportunity for me to get the Rangers v Hibs game out of my system!!!

Got to Warrington in good time, a local football club do but this time raising funds for Cancer Research following some terrible personal experiences with the locals.

I was working with old mate Ged Stone and yet again we had a great night raising monies far in excess of the organiser's dreams. Home and off to bed by 3.00am!!

Sunday was definitely going to be a chilling in front of the TV watching football type of day.

A military welcome to Boro and Blackpool players.

THE WEEK AHEAD

Monday Oliver, Tuesday would have been Catterick Races but a meeting at the Gazette offices to do our latest Talking Boro panel review for the newspaper. My first look of the season at Hartlepool on Tuesday night against Sheffield United in the Paint Pot Cup.

International shut down so sadly no football next weekend but a trip up to Fife to host the local Rangers Supporters Bus's 40th anniversary celebration dinner.

The last day of September and an afternoon's racing at Sedgefield in the sunshine.

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

My charity account for MND is still open and taking donations to try and raise funds for the society that works so hard to help people suffering from the disease and I am still hoping people will contribute. Please help me help them. http://www.justgiving.com/Jeff-Winter

Have a good week.
