WINTERS WORLD FEATURING CUP TIES AND BORO TRYING TO GET THE SHEFFIELD DEBACLE OUT OF THEIR SYSTEM
2nd September 2014

Sunday and instead of my usual TV watching football restful day, I had to do some work.

Strange gig at Valley Parade or whatever they now call the ground. Do you know I have recently realised that I don't know the names of half of the grounds anymore as they are picking up sponsors names and changing them by the week!

Parking was difficult as the main suites at the ground were being used for an Asian wedding. I was in a smaller room to speak at a stag do. That was a first, but it was a cracking afternoon. The CEO of Bradford City was there and kindly invited me to Wednesday's game against Leeds United, so that fills an evening after an afternoon at Catterick Races.

Good audience and I was followed by a very voluptuous "Whitby kipper" but having had a good look I departed as I'm sure that someone would have suggested that I followed the groom into being stripped and whipped etc etc.

I hate Bank Holidays when the weather is shit, waste of a day!!!

Tuesday and football again, both Rangers and Boro in action at the same time as Sedgefield Races, good scheduling that is, NOT!!!

Hopefully both teams will progress to provide more midweek matches hopefully not on the same night. Not only did that happen but more, Oh dear me, Celtic lose and go out of the Champions league, AGAIN. Well unless they find something else to appeal over. Rangers do just enough to win, likewise Boro, not as convincing as the 3-1 score line suggests.

Must admit regardless of who you support it was good for sporting integrity that Celtic got humped out of the Champions league. Now's there's a phrase I haven't heard in a while!! I don't know if seeding prevents it but wouldn't it be marvellous if they got paired with Legia Warsaw in the Europa League. Don't think many of their brave supporters would venture to Poland!!

Saturday morning and before the football it was haircut time for Oliver and Grandpa. Times are hard so got him a Saturday job as well!

At the Riverside Boro finally eased to what appeared a comfortable victory over in form Preston but the scoreline didn't really reflect the game and had the visitors taken two guilt edged chances at crucial time sin the game another upset might have been on the cards. Good to see local lad James Hugill score for Preston, less than two years ago he was playing non-league football and now he's scored at the Riverside. Good luck to the lad.

Managed to shout down the Celtic score to Andy Little as he finished his warm down, looked like he was pleased with the outcome.

Its all over at Valley Parade, or should I say the Coral Windows Stadium, and cup kings Bradford celebrate with the fans after a thrilling defeat of neighbours Leeds United.

Wednesday and this time I could get racing and football in, the first six at Catterick and then down to Bradford to watch the tasty clash with Leeds United and possibly Dave Hockaday's last game in charge.

Nice afternoon at the races, three winners so just about broke even but don't ask me how I managed not to be in front!! On the way to Bradford my old mate Howard Webb rang me for a catch up. The present day Refs are on a very good package, good luck to them they deserve it for all the shit they get. But no wonder they don't want to retire!

Plenty of familiar faces at Valley Parade, or whatever its called nowadays, John Hendrie, "Sticks" Ormandroyd and most significantly Tanya Arnold off BBC's Rugby League Show; there is just something about her!!!

The Kop at Bradford provided unbelievable vocal support.

Brilliant atmosphere, in fact incredible, Leeds fans had as usual travelled in numbers and were their normal vocal venomous selves. The City fans were superb, the ground was rocking. Most Capital One cup ties are played to half empty stadiums.

Leeds had a player sent off in the first half two crazy tackles, two yellows and then a red, didn't help their cause. The previous night after 45 minutes of tedium I'd witnessed three goals in twelve minutes.

Tonight with eight minutes to go and extra time beckoning my bets looked doomed, three goals or more in game and a match goal after 72 minutes. Then it went mental on and off the pitch. Three goals in five minutes, both bets in and it kicked off in the stands.

Wednesday evening, Bradford City v Leeds United. The away stand opposite is packed with Leeds' usual large and very noisy travelling support.

Leeds celebrated their opening goal hand at the time likely winner but when City equalised 90 seconds later the fans squared up, missiles were thrown and the Leeds fans tried to get at their opponents, in the furore disabled supporters had to be moved. Wonder why they are described as "Leeds Scum"?

Bradford got the winner and the roof nearly came off. God knows what happened post match in the streets but the helicopters were still circling when I came out half an hour later. The draw for Boro wasn't kind, Liverpool away, still I love going to that ground so another good night out in the offing.

During my two visits to Valley Parade I met similar minded souls with a love of Rangers and was handed this little memento to add to my collection.

Thursday and a day at the seaside with Oliver and my other son, Friday and a working day at Washington Golf club for the second year running speaking at the Washington Juniors FC Golf Day, as I'm not a golfer, a day driving a buggy then speaking and fundraising afterwards.

Forget the Premier League, its people like John and Nigel their wives friends, colleagues and supporters that really matter in football. Countless hours, dedication for no financial reward. An honour to help them, long may their efforts be rewarded.

Before leaving Catterick Races on Wednesday afternoon the Kieren Fallon ridden Galizzi duly obliged for me to bring me level on the afternoon.

Saturday started very well taking my Grandson to the hairdressers, a daunting task at the best, but my little fellah was as good as gold, unfortunately that was as good as it got, certainly with regards to the Boro.

Rangers came from behind to win again which was good news. At the Riverside my crappy Iphone wasn't giving me updates on my Acca tracker but at least when I got home my spirits were lifted as all six of my Goals galore games came good bringing with it a very nice return.

On a positive front I enjoyed being a guest in Jim Platt's lounge and speaking to the fans before and after the game. Unfortunately around that I had to endure another painful 90 minutes in a sterile atmosphere as Boro slumped to their second home defeat of the week. Promotion, you're having a laugh!

Players coming in left right and centre, but can they be moulded into a team and more importantly will Karanka ever dispense with his one man up front policy? Bollocks I'm off to the sun!!

Andy Little in strange pose as he limbers up after coming on as a substitute for Preston at the Riverside on Tuesday.

THE WEEK AHEAD

A week in the sun to coincide with the international break, Madeira beckons!!

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

My charity account for MND is still open and taking donations to try and raise funds for the society that works so hard to help people suffering from the disease and I am still hoping people will contribute. Please help me help them.

In County Durham fashion awareness is not an attribute shared by all, bottle is something they do have in abundance though!! John Routledge probably thinks that he looks the "dogs" but no-one has the balls to tell him the truth!!! Great guys though that support Washington Juniors FC.

jeff winter
Sat dry and smiling, it won't last long!!! Phil Lillie not knowing what is going to hit him at the Fundraising Golf day for Washington Juniors FC.

The moment of impact as Phil Lillie gets the ice bucket treatment at Washington Juniors Golf Day on Friday afternoon.

jeff winter
I am a very lucky person; I earn a good living by helping make money for wonderful organisations such as Washington Juniors FC.

jeff winter
Saturday afternoon and surely a comfortable three points at the Riverside for Boro against struggling Reading.

jeff winter
Feeble numbers of Reading supporters made the trip to the Riverside on Saturday afternoon.
