WINTERS WORLD FEATURING 1,000 MILES ON THE ROAD
12th May 2014

Well that's it apart from the Play-offs and Cup Finals. at least we've got the World Cup to look forward to, though I fear that domestic interest will not go past the group stages.

Now for two months of media speculation on signings or in the case of Rangers yet more unrest and concern between the board room and the supporters.

Football club owners and politicians come into the same category with me, I just don't know who are what to believe. Without knowing the true facts I just can't get my head round what is going on at Rangers. What I do know though is that team building for next season will undoubtedly suffer if whoever is running the finances doesn't have the capital from season ticket sales.

After yet another Bank Holiday it was another shortened week so two days with Oliver and an afternoon at the Gazette offices to contribute to our panels Talking Boro end of season columns and then it was Friday again.

An estimated 1,000 miles to be driven to do two speaking events, the first in Paisley for the local Rangers supporters club then a long Saturday drive to Cardiff for another gig at a totally unpronounceable name for a team in the area, the event to be held at Cardiff Arms Park next to the Millennium Stadium. Happy memories of my last two visits to watch Boro win the League Cup and to referee the FA Cup Final. Friday night working with the Goalie and Saturday night with Comedian Jed Stone.

More and more nowadays dinners have females in the audience, apart from Scotland!!! When they look like the lovely Hannah at Cardiff Arms Park, you'll get no complaints from me!!

Are you planning a Speakers Evening or fundraiser? You can be assured that as well as speaking I will give maximum help to fundraising on the evening with my auctioneering skills, contact me regarding availability on jeffwinter@jeffwinterentertainmentandmedia.co.uk.

Just a thought, nowadays many smaller organisations have stopped doing Sportman's evenings mainly due to the economic recession and the increasing costs. If your club doesn't have the numbers to support the traditional speakers evening then why not book me for a one man show, I regularly do these, my normal After Dinner slot followed by a Q & A session and fundraising activities. I can assure you there is more than enough content to fill the night.

The big match in Fife, Scott's lads versus the Glenrothes mob. Thank goodness I'm in London at the FA Cup Final.

I have a booking coming up that is for an organisation that is very close to my heart, MND Scotland. I know a lot of readers have asked me to let them know when and where I am speaking in Scotland, so here's an opportunity and in so doing helping a brilliant cause.

The event is at the Gailes Hotel, Irvine on Friday 27th June, the speakers as well as myself include Willie Young and John Gahagan. Tickets are 45 each or 400 for a table of ten and can be ordered via andyh397@googlemail.com.

Motor Neurone Disease is a debilitating illness that took the life of former Boro hero Willie Maddren and recently former Rangers star Fernando Ricksen has been diagnosed with the same disease. When I was refereeing I was well known for sporting a goatee beard. So during the month of last November to try and raise funds for the society that works so hard to help people suffering from the disease it made a comeback before being removed at Ibrox stadium along with the hair on my head. The charity account is still open and I am still hoping people will contribute. Please help me help them.

Never too young to teach your Grandson how to 'Bounce'

Friday night's gig was at Paisley Golf Club which is situated halfway up a mountain! Thank God for sat nav.

Totally different night as two speakers, myself and the Goalie, who whilst hopefully being amusing are both speakers rather than the comedians that most people north of the border try to be. In England there is a clear distinction between a speaker and a comedian - not usually the case in Scotland.

MC was Simon Leslie who talks for Scotland. The Goalie's ears were bleeding after the meal. Guess what? It was steak pie with little sausages in it!!! No change there then.

Andy Goram went first then me, audience were great, straight into the auction which was very successful, and the Paisley loyal RSC will be far more affluent after this gig that's for sure.

Well received although one guy came up to me at the end and whilst complimenting me on being a legend advised me that I should tell more Rangers stories. Missing the point here mate, I was a Premier League referee and it's my experiences there that I talk about. What you see is what you get with me and after 900 plus gigs I must be doing something right!! Back to hotel by just after midnight but the music and party was still going strong as I left.

Got some kip before the 399 drive to my next hotel.

In Kilmaurs for the Blue Do 14 function that raised over 4,000 for charities both local and national. Yours truly alongside the FA Cup that Graham Roberts captained to win and organiser John McGilp and his son Noah.

Nice healthy McDonald's double sausage and egg McMuffin before heading south, decent journey despite outbursts of monsoon rain. Brief stop at services to get a dump and Costa gingerbread latte. Queue was made bearable by watching a lady with a very nice pair of fuck me over the knee boots and also a very nice pair as well!

Had a patent and listened to the first one win @ 5/1, got to the hotel and watched the second on the phone win @ 7/2. The third one running at Thirsk tonight whilst we're likely to be eating. Bound to lose, there's always one that lets you down!!! Mind you if it comes in returns will double tonight's fee and more importantly set me up with some stake money for Sedgefield on Tuesday!!

Watching Bangor play on Welsh TV with Welsh commentary!! Like watching Rangers play on Alba, funny when post match they have to interview the players in English!!

Tweets suggesting last night in Paisley was very well received, so won't be changing my act!!

Text from Scott in Fife asking me to advertise next weekend's killer match between the RSC's of Glenrothes and the Leven Lads. Scott's manager and has put his players on a sex ban, but he's not leading by example!!

Fun afternoon; after the playgroup and before the swings on Tuesday afternoon I took Oliver for a haircut.

Picked up at the hotel and taken to Cardiff Arms Park for the evening's gig for a local football team, Llanwern FC, always good nights in South Wales and this was going to be no different.

I like the people down here, similar to the Scousers and people from the north-east. Home from home. Whilst eating managed to take in the 8.10 at Thirsk; typical, my horse finished second and denied me a four figure return, still a profit and I'm working.

Jed Stone was the comic, an old mate of mine and always great value especially with a mixed audience. The players threatened to be boisterous but they were great lads. They'd won promotion and were out to celebrate.

Yet again the auction was profitable for the club so everyone was happy. Met some lads from Pontypridd FC that have been made famous by being featured on Colin Murray's talkSPORT show. They've now got over 400 heading for Valencia along with my squeaking mate Razor Ruddock and Danny Murphy. Might have to check the diary!!

Back to hotel for a few hours kip, politely turning down a night out in the city. I love Cardiff and the Welsh girls are gorgeous but the 300 mile last leg of my weekend's travels is best done sober and awake!!

THE WEEK AHEAD

No midweek football, well apart from Play-offs on TV!! Sandwiched in between looking after my Grandson should be able to get to Sedgefield on Tuesday, then speaking in Bradford on Friday night before heading to Wembley on Saturday morning for the Cup Final, a night out in London with my website manager Steve Goldby then spending Sunday with my daughter. Happy days!!

Have a good week.
